The number of cyber attacks decreased by more than 57% compared to the same period.

According to information from the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications) recorded the number of cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam in the month October 2024 was 204, down 18,4% compared to the previous month and 79,8% compared to the same period last year.

It can be seen that in the past 3 months, the number of cyber attacks on systems in Vietnam has continuously decreased, from 349 incidents in August, down to 8 incidents in September and further down to 250 incidents in October.

Accumulated from the beginning of 2024 to the end of October, Vietnam encountered 10 cyber attacks, down more than 4.483% compared to the same period in 57 (2023 incidents).

Notably, the number of attacks has decreased continuously in the past three months, showing an improvement in awareness and action of domestic organizations and businesses towards information security.

Although the number of cyber attacks tends to decrease, the sophistication and danger of attack campaigns are considered to be increasing.

In fact, in the first months of this year, Vietnam's cyberspace has also witnessed important information systems containing a lot of data of businesses and organizations operating in key fields such as telecommunications, energy, securities, and logistics being attacked by ransomware.

Ransomware attacks on units in Vietnam have seriously affected the operations, economic losses and reputation of businesses and organizations.

According to a representative of the Information Security Department, this is a warning as international cybercriminals are increasingly interested in Vietnamese businesses.

The representative of the Department of Information Security also emphasized that, in the context of continuously developing and increasing cyber security threats in cyberspace, agencies, organizations and enterprises must always be vigilant and constantly improve information security capacity and the ability to prevent and combat threats.

To proactively deal with risks, the Department of Information Security recommends three main groups of solutions including: Having an effective response plan, investing properly in information security and regularly practicing response plans.

Specifically, units need to develop a comprehensive information security plan, including measures to monitor, protect and restore the system. The plan must comply with legal regulations and instructions from the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Agencies and organizations are encouraged to spend about 10% of their IT budget on regular security tools and costs, ensuring reasonable and continuous investment in information security solutions.

Units also need to develop a comprehensive information security plan for their business organization, including measures from monitoring, detection to protection, rapid response, and system recovery after incidents.

Paying attention to offline data backup and system recovery within 24 hours after an incident is also an important requirement to minimize the impact of attacks. The Information Security Department affirmed that only when the system is guaranteed to be secure will it be put into official operation.
