Large corporations need to play a pioneering role in dual transformation

DNVN – Speaking at the workshop “Pioneering the “dual” transformation for a greener Vietnam”, on the morning of 12/11, Mr. Le Viet Anh – Director of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment (Ministry of Planning and Investment) emphasized that large international enterprises and corporations need to promote their leading role and support small enterprises in the "dual" transformation process.

In recent years, Vietnam has emerged as a dynamic player in the global economy, with digital transformation and green transformation serving as important catalysts for the country’s growth and development. These transformations are not only inevitable and irreversible trends, but also important strategies for sustainable economic development.

The intersection of digital and green transformation (the “dual” transformation) creates a synergy that supports the benefits of both. Digital transformation is not only a means of modernizing the economy, but also provides powerful tools to promote green growth, while green activities can promote the adoption of sustainable digital solutions.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop “Pioneering “dual” transformation for a greener Vietnam”, Editor-in-Chief of Investment Newspaper Le Trong Minh said that promoting green growth through digital transformation is truly offering Vietnam a special opportunity to achieve sustainable development, increase labor productivity and improve people's quality of life.

To achieve such results, we also need a business community with a high sense of responsibility. At the same time, entrepreneurs need to be pioneers and actively take innovative actions, despite facing great difficulties and challenges in terms of financial and human resources.

“Innovative solutions combined with pioneering actions play a pivotal role in promoting Vietnam’s dual transformation and sustainable development,” said Mr. Minh.

According to the Minister Ministry of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, to develop new productive forces and new production relations, is the solution for rapid and sustainable development, General Secretary To Lam Consider digital transformation a fundamental production revolution in the 4.0 era.

Vietnam’s digital technology enterprises, especially artificial intelligence (AI) enterprises, must be responsible for creating a digital transformation ecosystem for many small and medium-sized enterprises. Nationwide AI transformation requires tens, hundreds of thousands of digital technology enterprises.

“The leading AI enterprises must create this ecosystem, because AI transformation is a transformation for millions of enterprises, hundreds of thousands of cooperatives and cooperative groups. Including 5 million business households, 27 million households, 14.000 establishments. medical, 44.000 schools and also for 100 million Vietnamese people," Mr. Hung said.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Le Viet Anh - Director of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment (Ministry of Planning and Investment) cited the World Bank's 2023 report on the trend of "dual" transformation. Accordingly, the report pointed out the connection between digital technology and green technology. Based on research and evaluation using patent data, 16 green technologies and 11 digital technologies were selected as the foundation for "dual" transformation.

According to the report, during the 2017-2021 period, Vietnam held 15% of the total 493 green patents in emerging markets, behind Malaysia (51%) and Thailand (20%). Most of Vietnam's green transformation technology patents are related to fields such as wind energy, waste management, air and water pollution reduction, and green buildings.

Mr. Le Viet Anh - Director of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment (Ministry of Planning and Investment) spoke at the workshop.

Meanwhile, in terms of digital transformation technologies, Vietnam accounts for only 8% of the total 537 patents of developing economies, behind Malaysia (58%), the Philippines (16%) and Thailand (11%). Analysis from the World Bank Report shows that digital transformation is an important driving force to promote the success of green transformation and the trend of “dual transformation”.

To promote the "dual" transformation process, Mr. Viet Anh recommends that digital transformation and green transformation need to be closely and organically linked together, both based on an important foundation of science, technology and innovation along with high-quality human resources.

The destination of the “dual” transformation is people-centered, therefore, it needs to be implemented on the principle of ensuring fairness and equality and there needs to be a roadmap to minimize impacts on vulnerable groups such as the poor, ethnic minorities, women, children, and the elderly in this process.

At the same time, the implementation of the “dual” transformation requires close and comprehensive coordination of all relevant parties. In which, the State plays a leading role, creating an institutional and policy framework, providing initial support, and the business community plays a pioneering and core role in this process, especially large enterprises.

“The implementation of “dual” transformation needs to keep up with the progressive trend of world, especially advances in science, technology, and innovation. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen international cooperation, exchange experiences, and share information.

Large international enterprises, corporations, and foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises need to promote their leading role and support small and medium-sized enterprises in this transformation process," Mr. Viet Anh emphasized.
