The latest information released by security firm Kaspersky on 20/11 shows that Vietnam's cybersecurity situation is undergoing complex developments.

The company's report shows that in the third quarter of 3, nearly 2024 million online threats were detected, equivalent to an average of 5 in 5 Vietnamese users being the target of cyber attacks.

Kaspersky data shows that 18,7% of Vietnamese Internet users have been targeted by online attacks, ranking Vietnam 87th among the most vulnerable countries.

Also in Q3/2024, Kaspersky detected more than 20 million incidents related to malware spreading via offline methods such as removable USB drives and other local devices, affecting 34,1% of Vietnamese users. This figure puts Vietnam in 27th place globally among countries vulnerable to attacks and affected by local threats.

Kaspersky representatives said that the most popular attack strategy is still drive-by download. In this form, when users access websites that have been hacked, cybercriminals can silently install automatic software on the victim's device without their knowledge. More alarmingly, these attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated, easily "bypassing" even the most modern security software.

Another worrying issue is the rise of social engineering attacks. A common tactic is to impersonate reputable organizations to lure users into downloading malicious software disguised as legitimate applications or emergency notifications.

Recently, the provincial police Tay Ninh successfully dismantled a large cybercrime network specializing in online fraud with transaction amounts of up to VND25.000 billion. This case is a wake-up call showing the loopholes and weaknesses in the digital environment in Vietnam and thereby emphasizing the need for security measures. In addition, international cooperation is extremely necessary to jointly fight organized cybercrime.

“In the context of strong digital transformation, Vietnam is facing major challenges in cybersecurity. Therefore, the transition from defense to proactive attack is urgent. Both Goverment, businesses and people need to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect cyberspace,” Mr. Yeo Siang Tiong - General Director of Southeast Asia of Kaspersky recommended./.
