Call Identification Solution to Prevent Cyber Fraud

The strong development of telecommunications and information technology has positively contributed to economic development, state management and people's lives.

However, besides the positive values, there are also many risks when bad guys use technology to commit fraud.

Sophisticated tricks such as impersonating judicial agencies or state agencies have become common, causing much damage to the people.

Telecommunications agency (Ministry of Information and Communications) has cooperated with telecommunications enterprises to deploy call identification service (Voice Brandname) for mobile phone numbers of State agencies.

Specifically, when ministries, ministerial-level agencies, or agencies under Goverment When contacting people, the name of the agency will be displayed on the phone screen instead of just the phone number. People can easily identify official calls from authorities, helping them avoid fake calls.

Currently, there are 732 mobile phone numbers of State agencies registered for identification to directly contact organizations and individuals, to serve professional work.

Major carriers such as Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobifone, and virtual mobile networks such as Itel, Mobicast, Local, VNSky and ftp extension has completed the declaration of the identifier name for these phone numbers. When receiving calls from these identifier numbers, people will see the name of the State agency displayed instead of the phone number.

This means that if you receive a call from a 10-digit phone number (prefixed with 03, 05, 07, 08, 09) claiming to be a government agency but not displaying the identification name, people need to be vigilant and should not follow the requests from this call. This is a sign of a fake call with the purpose of fraud.

In addition to mobile phone numbers, the Ministry of Information and Communications is actively implementing identification for landline phone numbers registered by State agencies. However, to do this, it is necessary to convert from old technology (PTSN) to IP technology, along with upgrading equipment and transmission lines.

Therefore, the process of identifying calls for landline phone numbers will require time for telecommunications businesses to contact for consultation, design solutions, and carry out legal procedures with each unit.

Some current landline subscribers, if they do not have a terminal that supports the screen, will not be able to recognize the identifier when receiving an incoming call. Vietnamobile mobile network has not yet deployed support for this feature, so people using this network need to be extremely vigilant with calls claiming to be from a government agency.

The Ministry of Information and Communications recommends that when receiving calls claiming to be from government agencies, people should carefully check the information and can request a call back via the identified mobile phone number to ensure accuracy. If people suspect a scam call, they should report it to the authorities for timely handling.

The implementation of caller identification is one of the important steps to improve people's safety in the context of increasingly complex types of phone fraud.

The Ministry of Information and Communications continues to work with agencies and businesses to create a safe and reliable communication environment for people.
